Presenting Skills

UPDATE: 06/06/07: Today we live in a business culture that abuses the art and science of public speaking. We power up our PCs and present dull presentations to audiences who want to be inspired but never get fulfilled. In this manifesto Schwertly believes an effective presentation can change the world.

UPDATE: 29/01/06: Read Seth Godin’s post about Really Bad Powerpoint

—————————————————————————————

There is not many ways to help a brand flourish than delivering a presentation that ouzes class, knowledge of a topic, confidence, humour, honesty, and story telling.

As such I wanted to point you here for a great post about presenting, with a case in point.

Recently a well known CEO (Stan Sigman of Cingular) did a really bad job during the launch of the Apple iPhone (what an opportunity to under leverage btw), and the press has been subsequently devastating and widespread.

But why was the presentation bad? To put it bluntly;

1. His eye contact was poor (reading cue cards)
2. He gave no hand gestures (holding cue cards)
3. Poor tone of voice (looking down reading cue cards)
4. Very bad audio-visual (His suit was ill-fitting for starters)

I bet Cingular CEO Stan Sigman doesn’t take marketing too seriously.

No coincidence then that Google’s CEO, Dr. Eric Shmidt, followed by Yahoo co-founder Jerry Yang simply nailed it.

….go to Presentation Zen for regular posts about ‘Presentation’. It’s a great blog.
